The Quilt Garden

The quilt fairy is using a sewing machine, but this gem was stitched almost entirely by hand. Techniques used to make it include stenciling, beading, reverse applique, painting and deconstruction. I began the piece in a class by Leslie Gabrielse at QSDS in Columbus.

Metallic gold cording and gold bars intersect the surface of this colorful multilayered surface. The beads in the beaded fringe were hand rolled of aerated clay and hand painted. They're so light, they barely tinkle when they touch the wall.

A school of goldfish, a baby octopus and colorful swimmers of other descriptions flutter through the underwater botanicals in this imaginary ocean backlit by the sun. The piece was stitched with metallic threads in five colors that glimmer in the presence of incandescent light.

This is an Italian Spinone, a dog that attracts love wherever he goes. This one is heavily stitched in gold, silver and pink metallic threads. The wind is blowing the fur over the dog's left eye.

The Love Quilt

No two pieces of cloth are the same size in improvisationally pieced art quilt that features the word "love" in two places. It is made with hand dyed and commercial cottons and features metallic gold thread and cording. Click on the upper left hand corner to see a dimensional "tail" embellished with the word "love." It hangs free of the main quilt; a row of lavender colored glass beads dangle from it.

This winter scene is studded with crystal beads and sequins. It is made of hand dyed cottons and a shimmering white polyester for the snow. The leaves blowing forward off the front border are embellished with hand stitched leaf veins. The piece sparkles in the dark if there is any ambient light at all.
