10 Days with the Divine Miss Pearl

June 7, 2011

Security and Sleep

A whippet in my house? Not in a million years.

Not me of the 50-plus pound hairy beasties. Skinny leggy greyhound miniatures, who thinks of them? Whippets have completely eluded my many dog loving years.

Now that I am possessed by one, I assure you her most impressive powers are not her speed (35 mph) nor her vision (300 yards, three football fields).  It is her vulnerability. The ever evolving, palpable wash of emotion that shimmies across her surface, changing to meet the circumstances of the moment.

Pearl is the surface of the water rippling across the lake. The unpredictable interplay of light and shadow.

Sure but unsure. Confident but withholding. Playful but afraid.

The click of the camera reveals all. I can't stop snapping pictures of her. I can't stop looking at this vulnerable creature. She's so delicate, so human, so hungry for love.

I am here to give her what she wants.

It's only been 10 days but we have mastered trust.
