New magazine filling a niche in the world of fiber arts

The QSDS Voice is an art rich, upstart electronic magazine developed for the Quilt Surface Design Symposium by editor and publisher Connie Bloom, who is an Ohio-based professional quilt artist and career journalist. The Voice provides a platform for the verbal explorations of professional and emerging quilt artists and draws from an ever growing cache of high profile writers who energize their readers with their fresh, original voices. The magazine is open minded and unafraid of controversy and is rapidly filling a niche in the world of fiber arts.

Free digital downloads and subscriptions of the quarterly publication are available at Conniebloom.com and QSDS.com. You will need Adobe Reader on your computer to read the magazine. It is available free at http://get.adobe.com/reader/ otherversions/. The magazine is laid out for duplex printing on your home printer. It can also be printed single sided. Please use heavy weight, glossy paper to avoid bleed-through and to keep us looking spiffy while keeping our carbon footprint small.

Submissions and commentary are welcome at connie@conniebloom.com. If you would like to know what your peers are doing, take a stroll through the QSDS Voice and see what the buzz is all about.

Publisher, quilt artist Connie Bloom

Connie Bloom is a fulltime professional textile artist with a working studio in the trendy Arts District of downtown Akron,Ohio. She employs hand-dyed and hand- painted cloth in her vibrant representational and abstract art quilts, which, from afar, look like paintings. As the viewer draws closer, they visually pick up a second and third layer of detail revealing free-motion sketching with a sewing machine. Newspaper fans know Bloom as a former Knight Ridder newspapers columnist. She is currently publisher and editor of the electronic fiber arts magazine the QSDS Voice, available at conniebloom.com and qsds.com. Bloom has a well known affinity for creatures and specializes in pet portraits as well as memorial quilts, made from the clothes and personal effects of people who have passed on.
